Midshipman JC Hermus of Bellport Bay YC and crew Kimmie Leonard sailing for the US Naval Academy Team helped Navy win the 2021 ICSA Gill Coed National Championship in Flying Juniors at Annapolis, MD as well as the ICSA Laser Performance Team Race National Championship. JC won the Everett B. Morris College Sailor of the Year Award and was elected to the All-American Team for 2021.


Hannah Pokorny of Bellport Bay Yacht Club, sailing for Old Dominion university, was named by ICSA to the All-Academic Sailing team for 2021!

Hunt & Betsy Lawrence were awarded the 2016 Nathanael G. Herreschoff Trophy for individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the sport by the US Sailing Board of Directors.

Sunfish Class President, Paul-Jon Patin won the 2016 US Sailing Championship of Champions and Marguerite Kohler placed 9th in that competition at Lake Bluff Yacht Club, Illinois! Competition was limited to 19 entrants who must have requested an invitation to compete. Patin represented the JY15 class and was the 2016 Sunfish International Masters Champion. He placed third in the 2015 World Championships, is a three-time JY15 North American Champion, and the 2011 Interclub North American Champion.

GSBYRA women military sailors, 2nd LT Keisha Pearson and LT Trisha Kutkiewicz compete as 470 team in 47th World Military Sailing Championships from 21 to 30 November 2014 held in Qatar after training in Miami under Olympic sailor Sara Lihan

JC Hermus from Bellport Bay Yacht Club placed 4th in the 194 boat 2013 US Optimist Team Trials held at Pewaukee Yacht Club, WI to win a place on the World Team. JC will compete IODA North American Championship July 3-11 in Bermuda, and at the IODA World Championship July 15-26 at Fraglia Vela Riva on Lake Garda, Italy. Debbie Capozzi, crew on Team Mclaren, representing U.S. at 2012 Olympics in Women's Match Racing made it to the quarter-finals and then lost to Finland. JC Hermus 4th place overall in the Gold Fleet and 1st place in the Blue Gold Fleet at the USODA Nationals at Sandusky Sailing Club, Sandusky, Ohio.

David M. Hyer, David A. Hyer and alternate Greg Schneller from Babylon Yacht Club, winners of the 2011 US SAILING Clifford D. Mallory Trophy for the men's national championship, held in the Ultimate 20 at Lake Norman Yacht Club, Mooresville, NC. "I felt like we had a handle on the shifty breezes on the lake," stated Hyer after winning four of the eleven races with no throw outs!


Nick Valente from Wet Pants Sailing Association, winner of the Smythe Trophy for the 2011 US SAILING Junior Single-handed Championship in Toms River, New Jersey! Valente posted bullets in 5 of the 10 races overall and won by a 10 point margin to finish strong by winning both races on Friday, August 12. Twenty skippers from around the U.S. competed in Lasers over three days. "At first I had trouble playing the shifts, but I got used to it and made the adjustments," said Valente, who will next be competing in his first U.S. Youth Sailing Championships in Newport, Rhode Island.

Brothers Connor, Ryan and Owen Hennessey, from Moriches Yacht Club, also competed as part of the Optimist Team USA at the 2011 British Optimist National Championship held in Pwllheli, Wales. Connor won first place in the Senior Silver Fleet, Ryan placed 9th in the Junior Gold Fleet, and Owen sailed in the Green Fleet.
